Odisha launches Rs.10000 Cr Farmer welfare Scheme  “Kalia”

Bhubaneswar: Farmer welfare is the flavor of the season. After the Congress’ Farm Loan waiver in 3 Hindi speaking states, BJP follows suit in Assam and Gujarat. Continuing the trend, the Odisha government today announced its own farmer welfare scheme ‘Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation’ (KALIA).

The state  cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik, today (Friday) approved the KALIA scheme amounting to over Rs 10,000 crore for farmers.  

 

 

 

All small and marginal farmers of the state will be covered under this scheme. Under the KALIA scheme, an amount of Rs 10,000 per family at the rate of Rs 5,000 each for Kharif and Rabi seasons shall be provided as financial assistance for taking up cultivation. This assistance is for five cropping seasons spanning three years from 2018-19 to 2021-22.

KALIA scheme has 5 interventions including support to cultivators, livelihood support for landless, financial assistance to vulnerable agriculture households and landless labourers, life insurance cover, interest free crop loan up to Rs 50,000.
