New Delhi : The Supreme Court of India today allowed use of Firecrackers in Diwali with certain conditions on the sale and manufacture of crackers. The Court has also fixed time limit for bursting Green and less poluting crackers between 8 pm and 10 pm on the Diwali Day.
The Bench of Justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan has allowed the sale and manufacture of green crackers and low emission crackers alone. In its order, the Court has banned the online sale of firecrackers and has put a restraint on e-commerce portals from selling them and the responsibility is placed on the companies. The Bench said people will be allowed to burn crackers between 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali. On New Year and Christmas, the timing is from 11:45 pm to 12:15 am.
The Supreme Court had reserved its order in this case on August 28 after hearing the petitioners, the firecracker manufacturers as well as the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
