Bhubaneswar: Odisha had a narrow escape as the Severe #CycloneTitli hit the Odisha coast at Palasa in Andhra Pradesh near the Odisha border with a wind speed of 126 Kmph between 4 am and 5.30 am today. The wind speed is growing & heavy rains are lashing the coasts which may cause floods in several districts of Odisha. The Cyclone is currently heading towards West Bengal and will weaken into a cyclonic storm by 12th eve before dissipating as a depression.
As per initial reports, the Cyclone has caused severe damage in the coastal district of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh and Gajapati District of Odisha. However, no loss of life reported so far. The Odisha M Naveen Pattnaik is scheduled take stock of the situation later today.
Talking to the media, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi said the cyclonic storm has affected the Gajapati district the most, while no major damage has been reported from Ganjam district.
“There is minor damage of communication network in Ganjam district. At present, there is no power in the entire Ganjam district. Efforts are on to restore power in the affected areas, mostly in Gopalpur where the intensity of the cyclonic storm was felt. Telecommunication to all the block headquarters has remained intact. However, road communication between Gopalpur and Berhampur has been affected due to the uprooting of big trees. In Patrapur area, thatched houses have been damaged while the asbestos roofs of the houses blown away,” he added.
