Bhubaneswar: With over 48 thousand new cases and 1129 deaths in 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 tally has crossed the 13 lakh mark on Saturday.
As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India’s total cases rose to 1336861 by Saturday morning. The total number includes 456071 active cases and 31358 deaths while 849432 people have been recovered from the viral infection.
The country reported record 48916 new cases and 757 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this India’s mortality rate has reduced to 2.3 per cent while the recovery rate has remained at 63.5 per cent.
Maharastra has remained the worst affected state in the country as its total number of confirmed cases has crossed 3.57 lakh including 144018 active cases and 13132 deaths. Maharastra is followed by Tamilnadu and Delhi with 1.99 lakh and 1.28 confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, as many as 420898 samples were tested in the last 24 hours out of which over 48 thousand samples were found to be positive. With this, the country has tested total 1,58,49,068 samples till 24th of July with a positivity rate of 6.2 per cent, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
Indian pharmaceuticals company Bharat Biotech on Friday begun the human trial of its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The first vaccine was injected to a 30-year-old volunteer who is currently under active observation by the researchers. Bharat biotech is developing the Vaccine in collaboration with ICMR.
apart from Bharat Biotech, another Indian pharma company Zydus Cadila is also developing a COVID-19 vaccine ‘ZyCov-D’ and it has also entered the human trial phase.
