Gadar 2 creates history at the Box Office, earns 55.40 crore on Independence Day, faces capacity issue
Biznextindia : Gadar 2, the sequel to the 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar : ek prem katha’, has set the Indian box office on fire, earning an estimated ₹55.40 crore on Independence Day, the highest single-day collection for any Indian film on the holiday.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, the film had faced capacity issues on the Independence day, as the demand was clearly more than the supply not at the single screens, at multiplexes also.
The film, directed by Anil Sharma and starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has been a runaway success, collecting over ₹229 crore in its first five days. It has also become the highest-grossing Independence Day film in Indian cinema, surpassing the previous record holder, Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).

The afternoon and evening shows for Gadar 2 are running at nearly 100 percent occupancy across the country, according to a report in Pinkvilla. The film also delivered one of the best Monday collections in the history of Hindi cinema, grossing over ₹39 crore nett.
Gadar 2’s success is a welcome boost for the Indian film industry, which has been struggling in recent years. The film’s strong performance suggests that there is still a demand for big-budget, commercial films in India.
