Bhubaneswar: Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday launched the 5G services in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar, Cuttack. In the second phase 5G services will be rolled out in another 5 cities of the state.
Speaking on the occasion Vaishanv said the 5G service will accelerate economic growth of the state. He said, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed to connect remote areas of Odisha with mobile connectivity. For this the PM has sanctioned 5600 crore for setting up of about 5000 BTS (towers) in the less penetrated districts of Odisha.
He also dedicated 100 4G towers in rural areas of Odisha on the occasion. Out of these towers, 19 are in Kalahandi, 12 are in Kandhamal, 8 are in Koraput, 25 are in Malkangiri distict.
Telecom companies Jio and Airtel have made necessary arrangements to provide 5G network in the areas. More than 500 base transceiver stations have been installed by Jio and Airtel for this purpose. The 5G service will provide upto 10 times faster internet speed than 4G internet.
The launching event was held in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1st October 2022 had launched 5G services in the country.
