India’s May crude Steel output up 47% to 9.2 MT

Biznextindia : India has registered 46.9  percent rise in crude steel production in May at 9.2 Million Tonnes (MT), World steel Association data shows. The sharp growth is mainly due to lower base of May 2020, which was disrupted due to the nationwide lockdown.

In the January-May period India has recorded 33.6 per cent growth in crude steel production at 48.6 MT.

Overall the World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 174.4 million tonnes (Mt) in May 2021, a 16.5% increase compared to May 2020.

China, the world’s largest steel producer has reported 6.6 per cent rise (YoY) in steel output at 99.5 MT. Japan, the 3rd largest steel producer has reported 42.2 per cent rise in steel output at 8.4 MT. United States, the 4th largest producer has reported 47.6 per cent rise in steel output at 7.2 MT.

South Korea is estimated to have produced 6.0 Mt, up 10.5%. Germany is estimated to have produced 3.5 Mt, up 35.5%. Turkey produced 3.2 Mt, up 42.4%. Brazil produced 3.2 Mt, up 40.1%. Iran is estimated to have produced 2.6 Mt, up 7.7%.
