Kolkata: Shyam Sel and Power Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, has commissioned an 8.9 MWp captive solar power project at its manufacturing facility in Jamuria, West Bengal, as part of its strategy to expand renewable energy use and lower carbon emissions.
The solar project has been developed through a combination of 4.6 MWp under the CAPEX model and 4.3 MWp under the OPEX model. The power generated will be used for captive consumption, helping the company optimise energy costs while increasing the share of clean energy in its operations.
The commissioning marks another step in the group’s efforts to strengthen sustainable manufacturing practices and improve energy efficiency across its industrial facilities.
Commenting on the development, Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, said the project reflects the company’s commitment to clean energy transition and sustainable manufacturing. He said the blended CAPEX and OPEX approach enables the company to balance capital efficiency with long-term operational cost optimisation while reducing its carbon footprint.
The company said the project aligns with its broader environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals and reinforces its focus on integrating renewable energy into its manufacturing operations.
