Midwest Energy starts commercial production at 1.2 GWh BESS manufacturing facility in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Midwest Energy, the technology and clean energy arm of the Midwest Business House, on Monday announced the commencement of commercial production at its 1.2 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, marking a significant expansion of India’s advanced energy storage manufacturing capacity.
The giga watt-scale facility is equipped with integrated Cell-to-Container manufacturing capabilities, allowing the company to produce battery modules, trays, racks and fully integrated containerised Battery Energy Storage Systems for commercial, industrial, renewable energy and utility-scale applications.
The company said the commissioning of the plant comes at a time when battery storage is emerging as a key component of modern power infrastructure, driven by the rapid expansion of renewable energy and the growing need for grid flexibility and energy security.
Battery Energy Storage Systems are expected to play an increasingly important role in balancing electricity demand and supply, stabilising the grid, improving renewable energy integration and enhancing power system resilience.
Commenting on the development, Midwest Energy Chief Executive Officer Soumya K said India is accelerating its transition towards a cleaner energy future powered by renewable energy, sustainability, decarbonisation and decentralisation.
“The increasing integration of renewable energy into the power grid is fundamental to achieving these objectives. However, it also presents challenges such as demand-supply mismatch, grid instability and supply uncertainties,” he said.
He said Battery Energy Storage Systems provide a reliable, efficient and rapidly deployable solution to address these challenges and support the development of a resilient, stable and low-carbon energy ecosystem.
“Through this facility, we are building indigenous capabilities to design, manufacture and deploy advanced energy storage solutions that are proudly designed and made in India. Our vision is to become a trusted long-term partner in supporting the country’s clean energy transition,” Soumya said.
Midwest Energy said the integrated manufacturing unit is expected to strengthen domestic production capabilities and support India’s growing demand for advanced battery storage systems across the commercial, industrial, renewable energy and utility sectors.
