Bhubaneswar: Odisha is witnessing an exponential rise in new COVID-19 cases as the number of daily positive cases has risen to 1282 on April 8 from only 461 cases on April 1, a 3-fold rise in just one week.
As per the daily data released by the state Information and Public Relations department, out of the 1282 new positive cases reported for 8th April 755 are in quarantine and rest 527 are local cases. With these new cases, total positive cases in the state since the beginning of the pandemic has risen to 346808, out of which 5941 are active cases and 338890 have recovered.

Yesterday, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik during his virtual meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the state has reactivated its system to tackle the new rise in COVID-19 cases especially in districts bordering some states with high incidence of the virus.
During the meeting he demanded the union government to release at least Rs.300 crore under the Emergency covid response plan (ECRP) for 2021-22 for COVID-19 management.
