Biznextindia : World crude steel production for the 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totaled 144.8 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2024, marking a 6.5% decline compared to August 2023.
China’s production fell 10.4% to 77.9 Mt, while India saw a 2.6% increase, producing 12.3 Mt. Japan’s output decreased by 3.9% to 6.9 Mt, and the United States increased its production by 0.7%, reaching 7.0 Mt. Russia’s estimated production dropped 11.5% to 5.8 Mt, and South Korea produced 5.5 Mt, down 2.2%. Germany’s production slightly decreased by 0.5% to 2.9 Mt, while Türkiye saw a significant rise of 13.8%, producing 3.1 Mt. Brazil’s output increased by 7.3% to 3.0 Mt, but Iran’s production fell 9.9% to 1.4 Mt.
In regional data, Africa produced 1.9 Mt, a 7.2% decrease. Asia and Oceania recorded a combined 107.1 Mt, down 8.0%. The EU (27) countries produced 9.1 Mt, reflecting a 2.2% rise, while “Europe, Other” saw an 8.4% increase to 3.7 Mt. The Middle East’s production fell 3.2% to 3.4 Mt, and North America’s output dropped by 3.8% to 9.0 Mt. Russia, other CIS nations, and Ukraine produced 7.0 Mt, down 8.7%, while South America produced 3.6 Mt, a 0.8% rise.
