Supreme Court stays annual Rath Yatra at Puri for this year
Bhubaneswar: There will be no Jagannath Rath Yatra this year at Puri, Odisha,as the Supreme Court has stayed the annual religious festival in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
Hearing the petitions filed by several organizations including Odisha Vikash Parishad, the Supreme Court Bench headed by CJI S.A.Bobde said such gatherings can’t take place at the time of the pandemic. In the interest of public health and safety Rath Yatra cannot be allowed this year. The CJI has also remarked that Lord Jagannath will not forgive us if we allow Rath Yatra.
